What is ‘eating clean’ and how to do it… | Total Diet Food - London's Fresh and Personalised Diet Delivery Service

What is ‘eating clean’ and how to do it… | Total Diet Food - London's Fresh and Personalised Diet Delivery Service

At some point you’ve probably heard someone talking about ‘eating
clean’ and may have wondered what this essentially means. At the danger of
over-simplification, eating clean basically means consuming a diet largely free
of any processed foods and thus, eating a healthy diet.

In order to eat clean, one should consume large quantities
of fresh fruit and veg, wholemeal carbohydrates and lean protein. Meat and
dairy should be eaten in sensible amounts and processed food (anything that one
would consider junk and is not natural) should not be eaten at all or used as a
treat.

Processed sugar is in so many foods nowadays for the simple reason
that it seems to often make food taste nicer. Much of this belief, however, is
simply based on the tastes that one is used to. The body will not continually
desire a food it is never given. It is far more often that the brain wants the processed
sugar, not the body. By eating clean you will start to feel better and the
cravings will subside.

It is often said that when eating clean, never eat something
with an ingredient within in that you cannot enunciate. This generally means
avoiding preservatives, sweeteners and the like.

One should not entirely ignore what they are drinking when
eating clean. People are often unaware of how unhealthy the drinks they consume
are. Water, green tea and (in smaller amounts) black coffee are all acceptable
whereas fizzy drinks, milkshakes and overly processed coffees should not be
drank.

Eating clean is not simply about sticking to a certain
number of calories. Whilst one would not suggest that calories consumed is
irrelevant, the focus should be on what on is eating in reasonable portions.

To summarise, eating clean is fundamentally about eating
fresh, unprocessed foods such as fruit, vegetables, nuts and wholegrains. It is
about largely eliminating junk food and products that contain ingredients one
would not naturally find. At Total Diet Food, all our food is freshly made on a
daily basis following the principles of eating clean. As long as one is
reasonably disciplined, this is not a difficult diet to follow but allows one
to have a healthy diet and reap the health benefits.

The Total Diet Food Super Food Series: Chicken | Total Diet Food - London's Fresh and Personalised Diet Delivery Service

Reasonably cheap and incredibly versatile, it is no surprise that chicken is one of the most popular meats available. Nutrient-dense and tasty, eating chicken has a huge number of benefits.
As it has tryptophan, chicken raises serotonin levels (colloquially known as the ‘happiness hormone’), hence making one feel happier. Phosphorous improves the condition of ones bones and the selenium in chicken lessens the probability of arthritis.
Chicken is often favoured by athletes due to its lean protein levels and minimal fat (if cooked without the skin). Thus, chicken is a fantastic option for anyone looking to lose weight or simply eat more healthily.
As shown above chicken is a healthy option but that is not necessarily what makes it such a staple in many cuisines. It can be flavoured to suit most tastes and thus enjoyed by all. It is popular with children and low calorie.
Chicken has largely avoided the media scandal that other meats such as beef have been subjected to in the past few years and for a good reason. As long as it is cooked properly (to prevent salmonella poisoning), chicken is an almost risk-free meat choice.
In conclusion, chicken is a healthy, nutrient-rich and tasty option for meat eaters. At Total Diet Food, our meal plans often include chicken for these reasons.

The advantages of almond, coconut and soy milk: | Total Diet Food - London's Fresh and Personalised Diet Delivery Service

The advantages of almond, coconut and soy milk: | Total Diet Food - London's Fresh and Personalised Diet Delivery Service

With increasing numbers of people shunning dairy for a
variety of reasons, not least due to lactose intolerance, interest (and sales)
of almond, coconut and soy milk has  been
increasingly on the rise. There are many advantages to drinking these milks rather
than cows milk or as an occasional replacement for it.

Almond milk:
As the name suggests, almond milk is created from the nut
and is surprisingly low in calories at just sixty, thus making it ideal for
anyone who is weight conscious.

It has no saturated fat but plenty of omega, lowering the likelihood
of high blood pressure. It has high levels of vitamin E, fibre and protein and
a reasonable amount of calcium (a key concern if one is not eating/drinking
much dairy).

Crucially, it is dairy free and so is safe to drink even for
the most severely lactose intolerant.

It doesn’t have to kept in the fridge so is simple to store.

Coconut milk:
Long-favoured in the Philippines and Caribbean, coconut milk
is gaining momentum in the United Kingdom as well as an alternative to cows
milk.

Whilst at first glance, one may be reluctant to consume
coconut milk based on calories, should not to be hasty to ban this from their
diet. If this is a concern, ‘light’ options are readily available in
supermarkets.
It is incredibly nutrient dense, containing vitamins B, C
and E as well as magnesium and potassium all of which contribute to a healthy
body.

It is claimed that coconut milk can minimise the possibility
of one getting Alzheimer as well as being good more superficially in decreasing
the appearance of wrinkles.

Soy milk:
Soy milk has lots of protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals.
Those with high cholesterol should bear in mind that soy milk is first-rate
when it comes to raising ones lipid numbers and hence is also fitting for those
with heart disease. As it has omega 3 and 6 enables blood vessels to be
increasingly flexible to shifts in blood pressure levels.

Much like almond milk, soy milk has fewer calories than
dairy. The phytoestrogen in soy milk enhances how much calcium is used by the
body and thus, bone mass is increased.

At Total Diet Food, we use all three of this milks instead
of dairy when preparing food for our lactose-intolerant clients or those simply
trying to avoid too much dairy. It ensures that or customers get all the
nutrients they need at no compromise to taste.

“It may be Bank Holiday but after such a positive week in terms of food and exercise, I was up at 0630 desperately wanting to weigh myself to see if there was a difference. I knew there would be, as I don't look pregnant any more, but I didn't expect to see 173 pounds on the scale, when this time last week it said 180 - Well in the past week I lost SEVEN POUNDS. I want to swear!”

Seven is the new five. Are you eating enough fruit and veg?

Apr 1, 2014
Posted by: Ben
It would appear that the famous government guidelines of five fruit and vegetables a day, recommendations backed by the World Health Organisation, is no longer enough.
Data produced as a result of a scientific investigation following over 65,000 people emphasized that, even when allowing for other contributors such as smoking and stress, simply having a minimum of seven servings of fruit and vegetables daily would lead to a longer life expectancy.
The main issue, perhaps, is that just one in three people are hitting the current target. There is no such problem at Total Diet Food where all clients get at least seven portions of fresh fruit and veg a day!
With statistics stating that one can lower the likelihood of death by 42% following a diet like ours the information seems clear. It is also interesting to note that tinned fruit and vegetables can not only negate the health benefits of consuming fresh produce but actually make someone more ill.
Time will tell whether England follows suit with Australia (where 5 vegetables and 2 fruit are suggested) or make the objective to get people up to the present goal of five.
